Bridging the digital divide with Deriv

At Deriv, there is a strong belief that technology has the power to transform lives, unlock opportunities, and create opportunities in communities around the world. True to this belief, Deriv has launched impactful initiatives in Malaysia, Rwanda, and France, all aimed at bridging the digital divide and empowering individuals facing unique challenges.
Through laptop donations, Deriv is enabling stateless children, refugee students, women overcoming adversity, and vulnerable individuals to access education, develop essential skills and build a brighter, more independent future.
Labuan, Malaysia: Education for stateless children
In Labuan, Deriv partnered with BCG Academy to support stateless children who lack access to basic education. These children, who’ve already achieved national recognition in sports, are now enrolled in accredited online diploma programmes funded by Deriv.
Deriv is also planning a graduation ceremony to celebrate the children’s achievements, an experience many of them have never had. This initiative reinforces Deriv’s belief in equal access to education, regardless of background or circumstance.

Cyberjaya, Malaysia: Digital access for refugee students
In February, Deriv visited a Chin Student Organisation (CSO) school in Puchong that serves Myanmar refugee children. Although the school had some equipment, it lacked enough working computers to meet the students’ needs.
To address this, Deriv is donating nine Chromebooks, bringing the school’s lab to 20 devices. Deriv’s technical team will install antivirus protection and ensure a secure learning environment, giving these students the tools they need to thrive in a digital world.

Kigali, Rwanda: Empowering women with digital skills
In Kigali, Deriv partnered with DuHope, an organisation that helps women transition out of street-based survival work. To support DuHope’s mission, Deriv donated 33 laptops to create a computer literacy training room.
DuHope’s holistic model includes therapy, budgeting workshops, and job training. With access to digital tools, these women can gain skills that lead to long-term stability and independence.

Paris, France: Promoting digital inclusion
In Paris, Deriv collaborated with Restos du Coeur, an organisation supporting vulnerable individuals. The company’s donation of two laptops will be used in digital support workshops or passed on to those in need, helping promote digital inclusion and access to essential resources.
These impactful initiatives highlight Deriv’s unwavering commitment to its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) pillars. By providing digital access to stateless children in Labuan, refugee students in Cyberjaya, and vulnerable individuals in Paris, Deriv actively supports and uplifts various communities. The ongoing partnership with DuHope in Kigali, which began last year, is a testament to Deriv’s dedication to empowering women by equipping those overcoming adversity with essential digital skills. Together, these actions reflect Deriv’s broader vision of inclusive and meaningful social impact.
Shaping a digitally empowered future
From Labuan to Kigali, its recent initiatives reflect Deriv’s ongoing commitment to using technology as a force for good. By providing access to tools, education, and training, Deriv aim to empower individuals and communities to overcome barriers, embrace opportunities, and build a brighter, more digitally connected future.
