What is a Hackathon?

A hackathon is an event where individuals come together to collaborate intensively on software projects. Participants, often developers, designers, and project managers, work in teams to create innovative solutions within a limited timeframe, usually ranging from a day to a week.

The primary goal of a hackathon is to foster creativity and problem-solving. Participants are encouraged to think outside the box and develop prototypes or applications that address specific challenges or themes.

Hackathons are a great way to learn, network, and showcase your skills.

Who can participate in a Hackathon?

Hackathons are open to a wide range of participants, including students, professionals, and hobbyists. Whether you are a seasoned developer or a newcomer to coding, there is a place for you at a hackathon.

Teams typically consist of individuals with diverse skill sets, including programming, design, and business development. This diversity enhances the creative process and leads to more comprehensive solutions.

Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience level!

What should I bring to a Hackathon?

When attending a hackathon, it's essential to come prepared. Here are some items you should consider bringing:

  • Laptop: Your primary tool for coding and development.
  • Chargers: Ensure you have chargers for your devices.
  • Notebooks: For jotting down ideas and sketches.
  • Snacks: Keep your energy up during long coding sessions.

It's also helpful to bring any specific software or tools you might need, as well as a positive attitude and a willingness to collaborate!

Preparation is key to a successful hackathon experience.

What are the typical rules of a Hackathon?

While each hackathon may have its own specific rules, there are common guidelines that participants should follow:

  • Team Size: Most hackathons have a limit on the number of participants per team.
  • Original Work: Projects must be original and created during the event.
  • Time Limit: Adhere to the designated time frame for project development.

Participants are expected to respect each other and collaborate effectively. Hackathons are about learning and sharing knowledge.

How do I apply to participate?

Just click the "Join the challenge" button, complete the application form, and introduce yourself. Only shortlisted participants will be invited to join the competition. We can’t wait to see what you’ll bring to the table.

Is the event open to non-Malaysians?

Yes, as long as you are currently residing in Malaysia with a valid PR, work, or student visa.

Is there a registration fee?

Do I need to have a team to participate?

No, you don't need a team to participate. You can apply as an individual and we'll assign teams before the hackathon (you'll meet your team at the pre-hack briefing). If you are joining with friends, just let us know in the registration form and we'll do our best to team you up. All teams will have 5 participants each.

I’m not a coder. Can I still join?
